It may be winter, but the Garden Guild is still busy! Join us for these events in January 2016:

Help move the Biblical herbs from the formal beds in front of the friary for temporary placement in the greenhouse’s designated cold frame. (Note: the photo is of an herb bed adjacent to the Biblical herb bed)

 

Sacred Heart NJ VITA volunteers june-july 2015Catholic University of America Day of Service 
Monday, January 18, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Join Catholic University students who are volunteering with us on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We’ll move over 300 luminaria from the Rosary Portico to the root cellar below the greenhouse and (time permitting) move garden fences, bamboo poles, tomato cages and more into the glass house for winter storage. Meet at the Rosary Portico.

soap makingSoap-Making Workshop
Saturday, January 23, 9:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. (includes 1-hour lunch break while the soap cooks) – registration deadline: January 20
Make a hot process traditional soap (with tallow) or a pure vegetarian soap. The $25 workshop fee includes a fresh bar of soap to take home. Meet in the Sacred Heart Conference Room, near the Gift Shop.

  • Rooting DC (Garden Guild exhibit table): Feb. 27, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (Wilson HS, near Tenley Metro or, from Brookland, take Metrobus routes H2, H3 or H4)
